Teachers challenging union dues in California

California teachers have initiated a lawsuit against the two major teacher's unions in that state over their rights: NRTW - December Foundation Action The Califonia Teacher Association and California Faculty Associaton are raising dues - which are mandatory for all teachers - by an additional $60 year. Why the increase? These unions have spent $100 million - of taxpayer money - in public relations campaigns attacking Governor Schwarzenegger.

This should be serve as a warning for Pennsylvania public school teachers - who have PSEA union dues automatically deducted from their paychecks. The PSEA has taken mandatory dues and turned it around to buy media ads opposing state spending limits, supporting a state minimum wage increase, and other propaganda, regardless of how individual members stand on those issues.
