Lesson from Pittsburgh: Low standards Hurt Students

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article covers how the Pittsburgh Public Schools administration is trying to defend its policy of a 50% minimum grade (HT GrassrootsPA),

But the district's teachers say some students refuse to hand in assignments because they're content to get the "50 percent" score for doing nothing.
Well duh!  I pulled that trick myself in high school (and maybe college) when I could rely on my test-taking prowess, or had a grade wrapped up.

I guess the kids - even those getting an F on their assigments - outsmarted the school board.
