Taxpayers helping millionaires
Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed celebrates the end of a long-standing tradition of sending taxpayers money to sports stadiums in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia - or rather, the extension of that tradition to grant money to revamp the Harrisburg Senator's ballpark. The $45 million rehab project (three times the team's value) will largely be financed by taxpayers:
Fans of the Harrisburg Senators ... will reap the benefits of a $45 million deal that will overhaul Commerce Bank Park.Actually, the evidence is that team owners, not fans, and certainly not taxpayers, will reap the benefits.
