Pennsylvania budget shortfall grows to $658 million
The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue has released the November Revenue Collections, showing the state General Fund collections now $658 million below estimate.
This shortfall exceeds the entire twelve-month shortfalls for fiscal years 1990-91 and 2002-03, respectively—budget cycles which resulted in the two largest tax increases in Pennsylvania history and significantly hindered the state’s economic performance.
Our news release notes that between fiscal years 2002-03 and 2008-09, total state spending increased 35.8 percent ($16.2 billion), well exceeding the rate of inflation. That's why were calling on the government to reduce state spending to 2007 levels, a difference of $2 billion. Or they could just adopt some of Government on a Diet: Spending Tips 2008, which identified billions in potential spending reductions.

Why don't you folks stop the MIDNIGHT PORKING of the PA TAXPAYER. Stop trying to shuck us like a bunch of dumb hucksters.
In 2002 the PA Legislature passed (HB 1213) which contained an 11th hour UNDEBATED EARMARK which authorized $107mn in State matching funds to dismantle PA's Monticello, The Barnes Foundation, Merion, PA.
The Barnes Golden Age Mansion in Merion was designed by one of Pennsylvania's Artistic Fathers, DR. PAUL CRET. The owner, Dr. Albert Barnes, filled the mansion with the greatest teaching collection in the World and left a Will stating that nothing should be moved.
If Pennsylvanians knew about the Move, I doubt that they would want it.
In fact, it doesn't seem that the Voters who knew the details of the Barnes Move wanted the Move: for instance, John Morganelli campaigned in Philly against the Move and won Philly by a Staggering Landslide.
Stop wasting Taxpayer Money. GUARD THE BARNES GATE. KEEP THE BARNES IN MERION.
