High Tech Higher Ed

The Washington Monthly ran an article by Kevin Carey of Education Sector last week on the effects of technology on higher education. Carey illustrates how one professor established a "Math Emporium" for students, reducing staff and costs. Although these and other innovations reduce the cost per pupil, students are struggling to pay bills as tuition rates continue to soar.

Rather than reduce tuition, colleges and universities prefer to retain the savings or spend them on other projects. Taxpayer-funded schools especially need to be more responsible with Pennsylvanian's hard-earned money. See Elizabeth's commentary on higher education costs in the Commonwealth.
