FHWA responds on I-80 tolls

Toll Roads News posts and analyzes a letter from the Federal Highway Administration to the Turnpike Commission on tolling I-80. The letter doesn't say much other than the stating that the IRRPP program is most apt for application. Toll Roads news covers the major problems/questions with tolling I-80 under this program (particularly in creating a "lease payment" based on I-80 toll revenues, which will fund other transportation projects - including mass transit - across the state).

Toll Roads News also posted the letter from FWHA to Rep. Geist indicating the IRRPP restrictions would not allow the Turnpike Commission to toll I-80 as it plans, and that there will be fierce competition for the last IRRPP slots. In other words, the federal approval of I-80 tolls is no given.
