Specter urges GOP to re-evaluate priorities after election losses

Centre Daily article on Arlen Specter's take on the election - I expected this assessment from TV analysts and Democratic critics, but not from a current GOP Senator. Then again, I am quite naive.

Specter said his party will have to become "a lot more progressive and a lot less ideological."

He said Congress needs to take a closer look at how it spends federal dollars, noting that he is "one step away" from becoming chairman of the Appropriations Committee. More money needs to be spent on cancer research, infrastructure, health care and education, he said.

Of course, Specter will likely be the minority Approprations chair, but given his profligate spending plan and "progressive" agenda, does it really matter if Democrats are running the show instead of Republicans?
