Earmark Showdown
Wall Street Journal article on a couple of bills expected to come up in Congress this week that would address pork barrel spending. While these bills wouldn't reduce spending, they would require pork to be labeled by the congressional sponsor, and for all federal grants and earmarked contracts to be put into a database for all to see. Who could oppose this level of openness? Only those who don't want taxpayers to know how they are handing your money out to special interests -- unfortunately, that may prove to be a majority of lawmakers.
