RIP Rose Friedman

Here is a statement from our friends at the REACH Foundation on the passing of Rose Friedman yesterday:

Rose Director Friedman passed away today, Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at her home in Davis, California, of heart failure. While the exact date of her birth is unknown, it was believed she was 98 years old. She will be remembered as a talented economist and an influential advocate for freedom.

“Rose Friedman was an extremely powerful voice in promotion of freedom. In addition to being a vocal supporter of human liberty, her work helped to discredit government management of the economy. Parental choice in education for all students in America was a lifelong goal of Rose, as well as of her late husband, Dr. Milton Friedman, often nicknamed the Father of School Choice. We will strive to fulfill her vision that all parents in Pennsylvania will have the ability and means to choose a school that best fits for their child,” states Andrew T. LeFevre, executive director of the Pennsylvania-based REACH Foundation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her son David, her daughter Janet and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.”
