CF Seeks an "Investigative Journalist/Policy Analyst"

Commonwealth Foundation—a Harrisburg-based non-profit, non-partisan research and education institute committed to advancing the principles of limited government, economic freedom, and personal responsibility for one’s actions—seeks an “Investigative Journalist / Policy Analyst” to conduct investigative reports on state government programs, policies, and people.

Ideal candidates will likely come from the Capitol newsroom or from the legislative or executive branches of state government.

The successful candidate will be familiar with Pennsylvania state government and politics and understand the processes for tracking down and uncovering information/data from both government and private sector sources.

He/she will be articulate, analytical, a first-rate writer and investigator/researcher, a strategic thinker, well-organized, a quick study, a self-starter, and eager to participate in advancing the mission and vision of the Commonwealth Foundation with a team of highly motivated, energetic policy professionals.

He/she will embrace the core principles of a free and civil society, share the values of the Foundation, and will be versatile, resourceful and capable of excelling in an intellectually stimulating and fast-paced work environment.

This position requires the conducting of investigative reports, as well as the production—in print, broadcast, and online media formats—and promotion of projects to statewide media outlets. It will require the ability to establish and maintain contacts and relationships with members of the media, confidential informants, and government officials.

Investigative reports will likely include delving into “corporate welfare” programs, “WAM”-funded projects, nonprofits run by legislators, appointments and actions of boards, commissions and authorities, analysis of executive department practices and procedures, and other types of investigations of government programs, policies, and people.

Compensation will be commensurate with ability and experience.

Our offices are located at the foot of the Pennsylvania State Capitol in downtown Harrisburg, PA; however, it may not be necessary to be located in the Harrisburg area.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter, your resume, and sample of your relevant work via e-mail to Info@CommonwealthFoundation.org, via fax to 717.671.1905, or via post to 225 State Street, Suite 302, Harrisburg, PA 17101.
