Is Health Care a 'Right'?

Many advocates of a single-payer, government run health care system use the argument that "health care is a right."

But as John Graham points out on State House Call, health care is not a "right" in places with government monopolies. Graham believes, as do we, making health care a "right" should allow individuals freedom to choose and buy the health care they need or want.

But governments with single payer systems, like Canada, outlaw many types of health care options, make it illegal to pay for health care the government won't provide, and criminalize providing health care outside their system (which is why many foreigners come to the US for health care). Some "right" to health care.
