Musical Chairs at Pennnsylvania Turnpike

Governor Rendell has promptly dumped Mitchell Rubin as chairperson of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and replaced him with Michael Pratt of Pepper Hamilton LLP.  Toll Roads News has more on the firing.

Meanwhile, the Allegheny Institute notes that Pennsylvania's transportation funding plan continues on the expectation that I-80 will be tolled in a couple of years, despite the federal government's rejection of that plan.

well it is good we didnt lease the road, considering those invested funds would be hurting pretty badly.

The chicken's will be coming home to roost in 2010 when the PTC can no longer afford to continue to borrow monies to make Act 44 payments.
Public offical responses to Rubin's departure are pathetic. Rendell fires him for alleged criminal conduct but ends letter by thanking him.
Joe Markosek speaks highly of him as he departs and makes no comment on conduct which isnt surprising since he is apparently blind to the unethical shennanigans which have gone on at the pike for years. And finally Joe Brimmeier thanks him as well.
It remains to be seen how much further the Feds will go at the pike. No bid, no show contracts made, political contributions extracted from contractor's consultants, law firms and financial advisors. Could this really signal the beginning of the end for this institution?
