Higher Education: Focus on Students not Research

A new study from AEI bolsters our claim that higher education's obsession with (often obscure) research lowers the quality of undergraduate education.

Professor Bauerlein's paper entitled "Professors on the Production Line, Students on Their Own," explains the broken incentive system that rewards professors for publishing instead of good teaching. The result? Lots of useless studies on Shakespeare and college students who never interact with their professors outside of the classroom.

Richard Vedder has more at the CCAP blog.
