Tax Credits Lend Helping Hand to Families

The Goldwater Institute has an interesting article on urban legends about Arizona scholarship tax credits. Some people think they benefit only the rich. Turns out Arizona tax credits are helping many low-income families exercise school choice: "we know a minimum of 41 percent of individual tax credit scholarships go to low-income students."

The article also cites a survey of scholarship tuition organizations, conducted by Dr. Vicki Murray from the Pacific Research Institute. The survey finds that the average recipient family was well below the statutory minimums in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
