Convention Center no economic savior

Post-Gazette looks at the failure of the $373 million Pittsburgh convention center to create an economic boom - or even to outdraw the old convention center (HT: Grassroots PA). Pittsburgh is not alone:

Heywood Sanders, a professor at the University of Texas San Antonio who has spent years studying convention centers, said Pittsburgh is in good company. Many of the cities that have expanded their centers are not getting the expected results, he said.
The Allegheny Institute notes that the results were predictable - because they predicted them.
