Ski for Free!

Well, we doubt you'll get to ski for free, but you should.

Seven Springs Mountain Resort--which lost $220,000 after it took over operations of the Laurael Mountain Ski Area--is poised to get free money (your tax money, that is) from Ed Rendell.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that $6.5 million is ready to be released to help refurbish chairlifts, snow-making and grooming equipment and other ski area improvements.

Call us crazy, but we don't think the taxpayers should be subsidizing a ski resort. Of course, when you're already subsidizing millionaire professional athletes and their billionaire owners, what's a few million for some ski resort owners?

Government is out of control in Pennsylvania.

I have asked this time and time again... How do I get in the line for handouts - I run a business, I even made money the last few years. I believe tax returns should have two columns. Discretionary and non-discretionary, then tax payers would be able to pick which discretionary items they want to support. That way if you like to ski you can give as much as you want.

Wow... You know how to read don't you. The money does NOT go to Seven Springs. It goes to the state park that is Laurel Mountain State Park. Learn the facts before you blog.

Right, because new chair lifts, “snow-making” and “grooming” equipment and other ski area improvements right next to a ski resort wouldn’t benefit the resort at all, would it? I’m sure all those improvements are done solely for “the public good”.

Umm...If I get the government to use taxpayer money to remodel a home before I move in and they pay the construction company directly, I guess you would be technically correct that I never received a taxpayer handout. But, boy, what a sweet deal that would be!
