The Turnpike Strikes Back

As a counter-proposal to lease, the Turnpike Commission proposes generating more revenue for transportation by:

  • Putting Tolls on I-80
  • Putting "congestion tolls" on all Turnpike exits around Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
  • Raising Turnpike Tolls to tranfer profit to the Motor License Fund
  • Issue bonds on future gas tax revenue
This to save us from a private company?

The Patriot News also quotes Turnpike Commission CEO Joseph Brimmeier as saying: "The Pennsylvania Turnpike can do anything that the private sector can, but we can do it cheaper, and we can do it faster"

Does that include Vince Fumo's gardening?
