Teachers walk the picket line

The labor union in Littlestown are striking over health care.

Currently, teachers pay only 2.6% of the premium for their health care benefits. The school board wants them to contribute 10% the first year of new contract, which will incrementally increase to 12% by the fourth year.

It is important to note that in the private sector, employees paid an average of 16% of the premium for single coverage and 28% for family coverage--see page 30 of our report here (warning: large PDF file).
