Wal-Mart and Chicago

Following Chicago Major Daley's 1st ever veto, the city council is reconsidering the law they passed requiring "Big Box Retailers" to pay a "living wage" and benefits. Investor's Business Daily notes that after Wal-Mart and Target decided to pull projects from the city (some to nearby suburbs) several council members were ready to switch votes -- discovering that minimum wage laws have negative effects. The council members have also discovered the benefits of low prices, as many of their campaigns (including the sponsor of the "Big Box" bill) shop at Wal-Marts outside the city.
