Dukakis on Minimum Wage and Immigration

Editorial by Michael Dukakis in today's New York Times. Dukakis claims that if we raise the minimum wage to $8 hour, businesses will stop hiring illegal immigrants.

Essentially businesses want to pay workers more with higher benefits, but because government hasn't compelled them to, they are forced to use illegal immigrants and pay them less than the minimum wage with no benefits.

It is stunning that we didn't elect this man president.

Shh - folks who believe this policy prescription might actually believe the Duke *was* President.

I can't remember the Duke's stance on the "comparable worth" debates of the 80's, but I assume it was principled and insightful.
