Cost of Government Day

Americans for Tax Reform released their Cost of Government Day Report yesterday, which was coincidently the national Cost of Government Day. This represents the day in which American earned enough income to pay for the spending and regulations of national, state, and local government.

This measure differs from the Tax Foundation's Tax Freedom Day as it includes spending from non-tax revenue (fines, fees, state lotteries) and the cost of complying with federal state and local regulations.

Pennsylvania ranked 32nd worst, with our Cost of Government day falling on Monday, July 10th. That means more than half of our income goes to government spending or to meet to the costs of government mandates.
