The best of the best, of course

The Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System and the Public School Retirement System are the envy of the government worker world. They are the most generous systems in the entire country.

For the taxpayer, though, that should come as no comfort. In fact, in order to sustain these extremely generous plans, taxpayers will be forced to cough up billions of dollars more in the coming years.

As this Citizens Voice story, State retirement system among best in the country, quotes SERS spokesman Robert Gentzel with regard to the taxpayers liability in funding these plans: "It keeps going up, it's definitely a trend in that direction."

While corporations like IBM are taking dramatic steps to control these costs, what are policymakers in Harrisburg doing?
